India’s success thundering loud at Grammy’s award
The 66th annual grammy awards 2024 was held in Los Angeles on Sunday, 5th of February. There, the listing of nominations was boundless and within that the Indian fusion band of Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain bagged the title of ‘best global music album’ category for their recent release namely ‘This moment’.
The album was released in 2023 on 30th June. The renowned band floated 8 songs, originated by Shakti, which features distinctive artist John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist).
In the course of time, Mahadevan gave an acceptance speech at the Grammy saying “Thank you boys. Thank you, God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you…last but not the least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife, whom every note of my music is dedicated to.”
The musician’s speech was loudly and cheerfully applauded by the audience and X (formerly known as Twitter) flooded with netizens’ comments. Many such leading lights celebrated this win on their social media handles, supporting the idea of, ‘India has reached heights and spreading in every direction drastically.’
Furthermore, Hussain won one more title of ‘Best Global Music Performance’ for his contribution to ‘Pashto’ alongside Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, featuring flute maestro Rakesh Chaurasia. On the whole, Zakir Hussain won 3 Grammy’s in one night and Chaurasia won 2 overall.
Taylor Swift grabbed headlines for winning a Grammy with the title of ‘Best Album of the Year’ for the fourth time with ‘Midnights’. Miley Cyrus won accolades for Record of the Year for ‘Flowers’, whilst Billie Eilish won for Song of the Year for ‘What Was I Made For?’
Indian music lovers will be thrilled to see the success of desi stars on the world stage, and the Grammy’s were as good an excuse as any to enjoy the success of global stars such as Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and many more as well.
