In a significant move to expand its AI capabilities, Google has launched its Gemini app in India. Previously available only in English, the Gemini AI chatbot now supports nine Indian languages, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. This development marks a notable step in making advanced AI tools more accessible to a diverse user base in India.

How to Access Gemini

Android users can download the Gemini app directly from the Play Store or opt-in using Google Assistant. For iOS users, the chatbot will be accessible via the Google app in the coming weeks. Much like Google’s previous voice assistant, Gemini can be summoned by saying “Hey Google,” appearing as an overlay on your device.

Features and Capabilities

Gemini offers a range of functionalities similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Users can draft messages, write emails, analyze images, upload files, and ask questions about them. The chatbot can also search the internet for information and is seamlessly integrated with various Google services, including Gmail and Maps.

Gemini Pro and Advanced Options

The free-to-use Gemini chatbot is powered by Gemini 1.0 Pro. For users seeking more advanced features, Google offers a paid option that provides access to Gemini Advanced, based on the Gemini 1.5 Pro model. This advanced version boasts a 1 million token context window, allowing it to handle more complex and extensive tasks.

Future Enhancements

Google has ambitious plans for Gemini 1.5 Pro, aiming to enable it to “understand vast amounts of information, from lengthy documents and emails to even hours of video and extensive codebases.” This promises to further enhance the AI’s utility in both personal and professional settings.

In addition to the app launch, Google announced that it is rolling out Gemini into Google Messages in English for Indian users. This integration will provide a more seamless and enriched messaging experience.
