Spain's Treasure of Villena Reveals Extraterrestrial Origins

In a stunning revelation, a Bronze Age treasure discovered 60 years ago in Spain, known as the Treasure of Villena, has been found to contain metal from outer space. To safeguard its immense value, the Treasure of Villena is securely housed within an armoured display case at the town’s archaeological museum.

This incredible find includes two iron artifacts, a small hollow semi-sphere thought to be part of a sword hilt, and an open bracelet. The treasure, discovered in 1963, consists of 59 finely crafted items, including bracelets, bowls, and jewellery made from gold, silver, amber, and now, iron from beyond Earth.

The Treasure of Villena, uncovered by archaeologist José María Soler García, was found by workers in a gravel pit in Villena, eastern Spain, sparking significant interest among scholars.

The discovery has been detailed in a new study published by researchers from the National Archaeological Museum, the Diriyah Gate Development Authority in Saudi Arabia, and the Institute of History at the Spanish National Research Council.

Despite its mysterious lack of connection to nearby archaeological sites, except for the Cabezo Redondo hoard, which also contained golden pieces and was discovered in Villena in 1963, the Treasure of Villena remains a fascinating and enigmatic relic from the Bronze Age.

Experts have debated the treasure’s origin, wondering if it dates back to the post-Agaric period (1,500-1,300 BC) or the latter stages of the Late Bronze Age (8th century BC). In a recent breakthrough, researchers conducted metal analysis on certain pieces, discovering that they were crafted during the Late Bronze Age (1,400-1,200 BC) using iron from a meteorite.

The iron in question originates from the Mundrabilla meteorite, which crashed on Earth approximately a million years ago. Specifically, two iron artifacts, a C-shaped bracelet and the hollow sphere adorned with a golden sheet, were the focus of the analysis.  This revelation adds a fascinating twist to the Treasure of Villena, highlighting its connection to materials from a meteorite that landed on Earth ages ago.
